New Relic Theatre is thrilled to announce the finalists for the MYTH Open Call for its Fall 2024 production. This call, which drew an overwhelming number of submissions from talented playwrights across the globe, has culminated in the selection of ten exceptional finalists. We were blown away by the scope, ambition, and quality of the many, many plays we received, and are grateful to everyone who submitted.
We asked playwrights to submit pieces engaging with the theme of myth—making and living myth in the modern world. We sought to explore myth as a refuge from a rational world within the infinite; as a connection both to our distant past and a more enchanted present. This festival provides a stage to fashion new mythologies, honor existing ones, and reexamine how we engage with history. Our hope is that, through the resonance of diverse mythologies, this project can spark dialogue, empathy, and a deeper appreciation for the multifaceted tapestry of human history and cultural heritage.
The winner of this competition, not featured on the below list, will be announced later this month.
Chandler Hubbard, for small quiet good
David L. Williams, for You'll Find Me Revolting
Davis Cowart, for Ashes to Ashes or As I Lay Dying (in the city of Pompeii)
Gabriela Tovar, for Llorona, or The Weeping Women
John P. Bray, for Tracks
Jove, for THAT SH*T EATING GRIN
K Stanger, for Oracle
K. Rose Dallimore, for The Nest
Michele Aldin Kushner, for Monster
Paul William Levine, for I Know Marvelous People

Thank you again to everyone who submitted—we are thrilled with the interest that this prompt generated, and will be looking for additional opportunities to produce new works alongside our historical adaptations in the near future.
